Remus John Lupin, also known as Professor Lupin, is a character from the Harry Potter series. He first appears in *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Lupin is a kind and intelligent wizard, highly skilled in defensive magic. However, he carries a secret: he is a werewolf, infected as a child. He keeps his condition hidden, taking a potion to maintain control during the full moon.

Lupin was a close friend of James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew during their time at Hogwarts, forming a group known as the Marauders. His lycanthropy caused him much personal hardship, leading to periods of isolation and unemployment. He eventually fought bravely alongside Harry Potter and others against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
